From Trokendi Xr To Topirimate And Seizures Again

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was wondering if this has happened to anybody else? It is the same drug so I’m confused as to what is going on.

I went from Topamax to generic Toprimate.
Have been on that and Lamotrigine equal doses.

I was on Trokendi XR for a year because it was free due to the manufacturer coupon. Now that a hear has past my insurance won’t cover trokendi and I’ve had to go on the generic brand Topirimate. I was very happy with Trokendi and now I’m having seizures again. I have temporal lobe epilepsy (partial seizures) diagnosed January 2019 and I’m 34 years old. I’m just very frustrated at this point. I know they are released differently and I’m hoping my body adjust.

It is the same drug, however it is released in different ways. This makes a huge impact for some people. The XR. Is extended release. Once the level is built up it’s easier to keep it constant. I take Trokendi XR now. Works much better for me.
