Does Anyone Know Why Depakote Levels Would Be Low If Taking Double The Normal Dose?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Panama City Beach, FL

My son is taking double the normal dose of depakote since Feb. 29 and normal dose of lamactal. His lab came back in the 40s! I was expecting it to be at the toxic level! He is having severe shakiness, moodiness, fatigue, and sleeping alot. But how could it possibly drop low again taking double? Ive been physically giving it to him to make sure there are no missed doses. This happen to anyone else and did u find out what caused it to be low?

DECREASE that dose right away because it is too much his body because it is causing him to go into a type of shock due to the medication dosage. Depending on his weight of his body the medication needs to be adjusted by the neurologist he/she needs to know this. Because it causing his react to this dose of the medication too bad in the bad stages it can cause LIVER DAMAGE which it is one BAD SIDE EFFECTS of the drug. He is on a OVERDOSE OF THIS DRUG it needs to be decreased to prevent him from going into Liver Failure which this drug can cause you to do. He should not be acting this way when you decrease his medication he should begin to feel better. GET THIS DECREASED RIGHT AWAY. And if he is taking this drug in combination with others you may need to have those other drugs adjusted as well to compensate for the change in the Depakote Level.

Depakote is very sleepy and fatigue. I used to take it. Felt like a "Zombie". I'm up to 5000 MG per day just with My Levetiracetum (Keppra)!

Be careful when You go to change Your Meds. One Epilepsy Med out there is called Sabril, a side effect could cause permanent blindness. My previous Neurologist was going to put Me on it until I looked into it further and then said NO! He did say there's a possibility. Always look at the side effects before starting them.πŸ˜‰
