I was diagnosed with insular epilpesy a few years ago and I have not been able to find anybody with my type of epilepsy yet. I want to learn more about what others experience.

Hi @JohnDefresne . It took some researching just to understand what Insular Epilepsy is. First understanding Insular Cortex and where it’s located in the brain . It helped me understand about Insular Epilepsy better.

I believe that Insular Epilepsy, isn’t a common form of Epilepsy. It’s more of a less popular type.

It is located in the Insular Cortex of the brain and is located deep in the brain. From what I’ve researched the Insular Cortex seizures can be mistaken from other types of seizures, like frontal lobe seizures, left and right temporal lobe seizures and ect.

I wish I could help more . Hope you can find more people with a similar type of Epilepsy, to yours.

That is exactly what I do when someone is talking about a different variation than the most common versions of epilepsy, so that I can be helpful in understanding what they are dealing with and where the links are to the experts to share with that person. Thus, it is a win-win because it helps me to learn more and also to help someone who has questions and would like answers from the reliable sources.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member That is exactly correct about the Insular Epilepsy and why they are tough to identify is because they can be mistaken for those other types because they can have so many of the similar traits.
