Has Anyone Had Any Luck With Alternative Methods Such As Acupuncture Or Chinese Meds?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
North Scituate, RI

I feel like im desperately searching for answers other than my seizure meds that have been changed many times and still not working. I continued to monitor my physical/ mental state/past trauma all the time , every Avenue I can think of to try and figure why they began out of nowhere 5 yrs ago. The only other thing my neurologist can suggest is 3 different options for brain surgery which I’m not interested in, no guarantees, many risks he says. I have focal onset seizures, not as bad as many… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I have 2 advices for you:
1- if surgery is an option and it doesn't involve loss of brain functions then I suggest you go for it, if drugs still can't control your condition, they never will
2- stay away from brain supplements and other novelty stuff like that, I tried nootropics and they actually worsened my condition, so any miracle herbs might do you worse than good, I do suggest some calming teas though, those containing lavender, because although they don't treat epilepsy they can calm you down and let you handle the situation with a better and more focused mind. Hope this helps.
BTW don't listen to Margery, she still got troubles dealing with this condition, it's ok not to accept it and try to find ways to defeat it, I just hope you'll find your way to defeat it. :)

Margery,
There are diabetics who shy away from insulin. Also, not every epileptic knows what causes their seizures. Plus not everyone has found the drug or treatment that works best for them.
Yes there are charlatans in this less than perfect world we live in.
BTW people in business are in business to turn a profit. That's why it's called a business.
Be well.

Thanks for your feedback.
My neurologist said he’s ok with it as long as I continue the keppra and Vinpat but never said anything about avoiding brain supplements so that’s something I should look into as you’re the second to say it on here . What I’m taking is mentioned above and I never read that it was specifically for the brain, seems to be for many things.
As far as the acupuncture, I go to a clinic and it’s cheap there and to me it’s like a massage, I just love taking that time for myself and meditating or taking a nap! It hasn’t helped with seizures but definitely with my sinuses and a few other issues.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member My advice would be to at least research the surgery advice and research other actual epilepsy treatments rather than putting time into researching alternative medicine.

I'm not the one to ask then because I wanted surgery, got it and I've seen 22 seizure-free years from it.
