Has Any Of You Had To Get Neurophycological Testing?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I think my MRI showed cognitive issues but i haven’t had my follow up yet. Today i get a call asking me to do this testing and she seemed to want me to do it immediately. Just wondering what the process is because i know it takes hours/:

They probably want to do some standardized cognitive testing, which is commonly done for baseline memory and basic recognition, visual/spatial comprehension and verbal skills. They will probably use the standard WAIS IQ test, or something like it. I’ve done many. The doctor probably wants to see if the epilepsy has interfered with anything NeuroPsychologically (intellectually). I’ve found the important thing is Not to be nervous or anxious about it! Don’t worry, it will be fine.

Have a very good weekend, and I hope you stay safe and seizure free!

I have been stopped by police but never got thrown in the slammer. There was one time the police thought I was drunk, the way I was walking, which understand. I got off work and my leg muscles were tight. So I went on a night walk. Iwas walk on the shoulder of the one the main city roads . Had wide street shoulde. I was walk on the shoulder and my legs went from tight ,to very loose muscles. That where I got in trouble the police. I looked like I was wobbling on shoulder of the road. A police car went pass me , turnarounds to the other side , went down a little turned around again and pulled behind me. Making sure that I wasn’t drunk. When my legs start loosening, I do start wobbling and have trouble walking straight. I haven’t had to do the the basic tests . Didn’t really passive too well cause my legs very loose. I was clear minded when they were asking questions. So they let me go and told me to get it off the shoulder and in the grass if I’m gonna walk

I had one 2 years ago at the epilepsy institute. It took a few hours and was actually sort of fun but pretty tiring. Nothing real hard. I learned I have a particular kind of memory impairment that can be seen with my mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. They said that although I have memory impairment it is distinctly different than something like dementia and that I definitely don't have that. They can't tell how much cognitive problems are coming from the seizures or the meds. People are sometimes surprised that my mostly focal aware seizures could cause cognitive problems, but mine do because they are exactly in the area that memory is processed. My memory scored in the 5th percentile which means that 95% of my peers have better memory, which was actually validating. I said, so when people say "Oh everybody has those problems." I can say that what I have is different? and the doctor shook his head yes and said "what you have is not at all normal, and is not unusual for people that have seizures like you." They also validated my specific learning disabilities. You will do great, there is nothing to prepare for, and no right or wrong way to do things. Bring snacks and a beverage if you want, I did.

I watched the police body cam and I don’t do drugs but I do not remember ANY of the altercation whatsoever! They took me to jail and charged me with burglary and I was totally out of my mind! Had no clue I was even there!😳😳😳. I got it amended to a trespass when they should have just thrown it out altogether but this is an elusive and scary disease that comes and goes! Be careful!!!🥰🥰🥰
