Dementia

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone ever developed dementia from their epilepsy?
My memory problems have gotten much worse this past year. I had diagnostic testing with a neuropsychologist and saw my results online. It says Major neurocognitive disorder/Dementia.
My Dr has been to busy to call, makes me angry, and his nurse can't tell me anything. Just wondering if anyone had any information? I'm just worried and scared.

I have trouble with past and present memory. I'm starting to have trouble with taking my medications and I even have an alarm go off to remind me.
Having trouble with words, talking, writing.
Just scary.

Finally received my call from the Dr. My main question was I wanted to know what type of dementia this was? He said it was the major neurocognitive disorder dementia and caused from my epilepsy and the tempro lobectomy surgery I had years ago.
I asked him what the Major was and he said I will just start having difficulty doing daily tasks. He said my husband needs to take over finances and my medications.
It just bothers me. Makes me feel so much older than I am.
He said I needed to assign a POA. He did mention something called a Mind diet that helps with memory.
I'm just praying to take this worry away. It will be okay. Just going to be thankful for each day.

Hello! I think it might just be to our neurological medications. I know when I look up what medications I am taking they say (short term/long term memory loss/forgetfulness). I forget things that I have said to people a week ago. Usually people that I have talked to remind me that I have said that before.

I started to develop dementia but I was also taking antidepressants off label and propranolol for headaches and high blood pressure. So I asked my New neurologist to wean me off and when I was taking lower doses, the dementia got better.

Yeh, my memory is not what it used to be, considering my condition and med,age etc, I have a memory I'd rate a 1 on the 3 scale being the best, but like I said, ok with considering my condition, I not complaining, I think it could be worse, I'm thankful for what I have and is , my opinion

I so much agree! My memory has been bad for years. Things have just gotten worse this past year. They are starting to take me off of Topamax though. They said it makes it worse.
