Has Anyone Been Diagnosed With Epilepsy & Gone To The Fire Department?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Shreveport, LA

Hello. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in 2019 after having 4 majors from numerous brain I injuries. Have only had minis since with medication but have been off for 6 months now with no episodes. I've always wanted to be a firefighter and trying to start the process but will need to undergo a physical background by a doctor. Has anyone been diagnosed and still able to be a firefighter? Thank you so much!

Not me but... In Aus, for some reason, you can still become a firefighter if that's what aspire to be you just have to be seizure free for 2 years I think. You may have trouble getting a truck licence though. I don't think it's the same as Police and defence where you need an effectively clear EEG result to get in.
