I Have A Son 36 Years Old And Married. He Does Not Allow Me To Be With His Kids. Cate Has Generalized Epilepsy.

I decided to join so I could learn in case maybe sometime in the future I would be capable of safely knowing what to do. His wife and her parents hate me I think because Cate and I were so close. His wife tells me she got it from me I guess you have to have someone to blame. I have done testing and nothing has ever shown up on genetics which I know are hard to find.

I am here to learn so I can be a better granny if they ever let me.

I am sorry you are blamed for this. But just so you are aware if either of the family have had epilepsy it wouldn’t necessarily be a genetic issue. I was born a premie and later in life I was diagnosed with generalized epilepsy when I was 8 I had absent seizures that look as if I was just spacing off they usually last from 30 seconds-5minutes you just want to watch and observe how long the seizure has lasted and make note. I am now 22 years old and I was not one of the lucky ones that grew out of it instead I ended up getting tonic-clonic seizures which are grandmal seizures these seizures you faint fall to the floor and have multiple spasms and possible foam/saliva coming out of your mouth we are totally unconscious during this type of seizure but always turn on the side and move any objects out of the way that could possibly injure the person having one if it last more than 5 minutes immediately call 911 it usually last for about 30 minutes until we are responsive but we will be tired, have a headache, cry, and even argue and deny we had the seizure because we don’t know it happen.

One most important thing to remember for us folks that have epilepsy is please don’t get upset and take it out on us. There is no way we can prevent it from happening.

Even if someone doesn’t have a seizure for a long period of time and they are doing everything they are suppose to be doing; there unfortunately is a thing called break through seizures it can happen to someone who hasn’t had a seizure in 3 months -3years maybe more but some of the causes of it happening is dehydration, low blood sugar, fever, not enough sleep but most of the time it’s an unknown reason with no known cause.

I hope me telling you this helped understand epilepsy a little more better it’s very important to know all of this
