How Many Of You Have Tonic Seizures (not Tonic-Clonic) And Are You Aware While They Happen?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Somwhere. EA

I ask this question because I see that grand mal seizures are still a bit of a mystery. I have had Tonic seizures where I would stiffen up for around 30-40 seconds and then slowly I'd loose tension in my body and then enter an absence state for around 10 minutes where I stare blankly and do not remember what I'm doing in that period. I definitely have been told that I do not have have spasms during my seizures so they are not tonic-clonic but there is an even weirder fact about my seizures
I… read more

I don't have a contribution, just an appreciation for these answers.

And a thought that bothers me every single day ... how stunning is it that this disease has been recorded as far back as Mesopotamia yet is still 90% mystifying and barely manageable??

ChickenWhisperer, I often have remembered the moments leading up to and the beginning of partial temporal lobe seizures. It happened with the one I just experienced that was a breakthrough from the heat: I felt it a few seconds before it started, and then not being able to respond to a friend as I became unaware of my surroundings. She said that I stiffened up mostly, not as much shaking. I started to come out of it when on the stretcher, and I was semiconscious in the ambulance, I knew what was going on around me (after they initially had to tell me I had one—I didn’t want to admit it), but the doctors had to tell me the seizure occurred because of the heat.

I don’t know if that helps you, but in answer to your question, I have had seizures in the past that might have been just toxic. The terminology used now has changed again, and they referred to mine as a partial temporal lobe event. I wish you all the best and hope you stay safe and seizure free for the rest of your weekend and week. Take care…

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member well although during a seizure you experience some sort of strange feelings I doubt there is a spiritual component to it, basically the proprioception area of the brain gets messed up too and that's where all those weird feelings like the pain and outer body experiences start.
But that doesn't mean seizures do not lead to a better self... after all, ever since I started having seizures I started to look at the world differently than before I had them. But the thing is... I always had hate towards injustice and all the mess in the society, right from my childhood. But during my puberty I kind of lost that hate and became a messed up being like everyone else, and then the seizures started and I remembered who I used to be.
It's not like seizures changed me, I always been like this, BUT... they put me again on the right path.

Exactly....I'm gunna go real far out there,so hang on.
I was just watching the latest youtube video from 'off the left eye' the video is titled How to safely approach God. Its all about explaining swedenborgs visions and experiences with God and heaven....are u still with me? ☺
Anyway the way epilepsy changes our brain waves etc maybe we're all getting first hand observations and experiences of how we must dismantle this physical body for our spiritual body to take over... like He was increase and I must decrease sort of thing

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member well my seizures spread from my legs to my upper body, but sometimes when I stumble upon something I also feel a strong pain in my abdomen while my legs feel numb for a split second. I had this shock-pain since I started having seizures 10 years ago, but this new "reverb thing" showed up recently.
Also I've been told I curl up my arms in weird ways when I seize, like I am possessed, it's weird but I've seen seizures on the web so I kind have an idea how it looks like when I seize.
