Trouble Getting Lacosamide?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I can't call lacosamide in to local Safeway pharmacy early cuz it's a controlled med, then they don't have it in stock, so always a couple days late. It's working so I'm reluctant to ask for different med after just 2mo.

Any tips? Do you get it local or mail order? What's best place/method, least headache? Thanks!

I use Rite Aid and they do the same thing with controlled medications, calling two days early for controlled medication and about a week early other medication. Usually, they're always out of stock of most name brand medication or just have some in but not enough to do filling of your prescription. If that happens, they'll give you a patrol refill, giving you what they have left the rest is given will come in overnight sometimes or a couple days, pending on how many days they were able to give you and need to transfer from the rest of prescription from another Rite Aid pharmacy or come in stock from manufacturer of medication. Seems usually they have generic name of medication in stock. I did just last night have a refill for meds, name brand medication to have filled, I was completely out of medication. They did have enough for one day, so they gave me that and I'll be picking the rest of that medication up today! Good luck with whoever you use!

I had a similar issue with my KEPPRA. . When I would order the Keppra, it was never in stock . So we used a different pharmacy and had no troubles.

Hi everyone! I appreciate all your feedback on how to get lacosamide without getting a headache! I’m picking up my rx tomorrow, will ask the pharmacist about coming in a week early so they order meds on time. And if I put it on auto-refill, does that help. If it falls thru next month, then I can try either Kroger or Walmart. No CVS here, except tiny pharmacy in a Target. And ask other pharmacies if they normally stock lacosamide. Helpful to know that they often don’t because of the price.

I get most of my other meds from OptumRx, hesitant to trust them with this one just yet cuz they recently lost one of my packages in California for 5 days. And, someone has to be here to sign for the controlled substance. We’ll see. I’d like to keep it at Safeway if I can cuz it’s walking distance. But with the Kroger/Albertsons merger, they’ll be selling all our Safeways to some other company, and who knows how things will go after that.

Tonite I’m just feeling so grateful to have all of you here to help me figure things out, and to have meds that work after only 5mo! I feel like such a newbie at this. Thanks all, hope you all have a good sleep.
