Has Anyone Heard Of Post-Ictal Psychosis.?.??.
What are some favorite coping skills??
I did a bit of research about post ictal psychosis and learned that can be very dangerous. The uniqueness of symptoms in all types of epilepsy are something that requires a good working relationship with a neurologist. I think that these many possible behaviors that can happen for several days after a seizure should be closely monitered by your neurologist and your friends and family.
I hope you have a good support system Chris. Take care.
Hello again Chris!
I think you are an extremely brave and strong person Chris. Consistently facing the day to day challenges of your unique form of epilepsy takes conviction, hopefulness, and daily consistency. That's not easy to do every day so I'm glad you have the medical support you described.
There's a certain amount of vulnerability we all share as epileptics and your additional challenges require some extra commitment and I'm sure that's tough to push through.
Thanks, Chris, what a helpful answer. Everything you describe is my husband to a T, especially the temper tantrums over simple stuff. Even the way you describe the build up after a cluster of focal seizures is just him. Usually doesn’t sleep well while it’s all going on .
So glad to have found someone who understands . His neurologist just said it sounded like behaviour issues. Awaiting admittance to a specialised epilepsy centre so hopefully some light at the end of the tunnel.
Be patient and loving, and he will return to his new moderated Self. It's really tough for all those involved at first, but it will subside. He'll probably feel very embarrassed, and a bit of guilt as well. Be forgiving and know this is mostly hormones once again rebalancing, just like during adolescence and those horrid Teen Years we all experience!!
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I applaud you for the research on the subject. I have kept a continuous communication line with my neurologist and have found a GrEAT psychiatrist who both have worked wonders with me on this matter. At first it was tough to find anyone who had even heard of "post ictal", let alone the psychosis which follows. I've had uncontrolled seizures for 27 years and the psychosis is just something that happens to quite a small percentage of patients. I have a butt load of meds (that I do use) which are meant to help calm me down but it takes a lot of self assertion and personal pep talk to wind your way through the dark shadows of yourself. I guess it's really a great practice-period to work on those skills we each have but don't get to use very much. I've had these symptoms for over a decade now and one would think it get's easier with practice, but the intensity is still in your face just as it was the first time. But good skills do require patience and it really makes a big difference when one actually faces a fear with a warm heart and an open mind
