Keppra + Side Effects
Hi, I’m dealing with extreme exhaustion and falling asleep multiple times a day, along with migraines. I’m wondering if it’s more on the psychological side or if it’s my medicine. I tried taking B6 to offset the side effects but no success
Context: I’m 22, I was diagnosed in 2017, I take Keppra (4,000 mg daily) and Lamotrigine (300 mg, starting 350 mg soon)
Also is that a high dose for Keppra? I’m seeing too many studies contradicting each other
I'm new to this so just my personal opinion, but I had a similar discussion with my new doctor I had to switch to due to my change in insurance. He wanted to increase my Keppra from 2000 to 3000 and I wouldn't do it since I wasn't having seizures during the time I had switched so didn't understand why he would change things and I would find online that 3000 is the max a person should take, after that you have to switch to a new med. I didn't want to switch since I'm not having side effects and told him I don't want to max out and have to get used to another drug. We disagreed so much I finally went back to my previous doctor and asked for his opinion and he said he felt I was doing the right thing so I stuck with the 2000 a day dosage and will adjust accordingly if something happens.
I'm ok with that, I think that I get tired now and then and nap (s) come to me, not a prob, but happen, I think it differs with the individual my opinion
Becky, hi ty for welcoming me!
I actually visited my neurologist today, we talked more about my type of epilepsy.. I was told I will never outgrow it.
I haven’t had any major breakthroughs and I’m now independent. He doesn’t want to risk me having a seizure so he doesn’t feel comfortable tampering with Keppra dosage anymore. He’s focusing only on my second medication, lamotrigine, now. We both agreed two anti-seizure medications are enough. He referred me to a psychiatrist but I wish there was something to offset all side effects that’s I’ve been experiencing since I was almost 16
Many people who take this experience rage or anger emotions , changing the person behavior and personality. All from the side effects.
Im taking it and been on it for a long time. I have been one of the lucky ones to not experience that side effect from it.
I used to take 3000 daily and my most noticeable side effect was inability to control my temper.
