What Type Of Seizure Only Last For 5 Minutes
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member
I never had any big seizures while having an EEG. One was even a surgery. So I got the RNS to record my seizures everyday.
NOTE: None of the epileptic seizures (chains of partial seizures, much more complex forms of Focal Onset Impaired Awareness Seizures (complex partial seizures) that can last for hours and the basic general full seizure (whether I drop to the floor unconscious or drop to the floor unconscious and have some convulsing while I am unconscious) are a risk for “Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) or possible death if the seizure is not stopped. Others who do have the more powerful seizures which can cause SUDEP or at least brain damage if they are not treated as quickly as possible with a "seizure stopper" delivered quickly into the body via an IV. I was told about this (and had an IV line set up as a precaution) when I was in EEG Long Term Monitoring, but all I had were partial seizures with most or maybe all of them when I was asleep (Nocturnal seizures). I have never had a full seizure of any kind when in the presence of any doctor or when hooked up to EEG or Ambulatory EEG.
Actually Sean, the correct answer is potentially the whole range of seizures, but the only risk if it is a partial seizure is in the reaction of others to what you do or say during the Focal Onset Impaired Awareness Seizures (complex partial seizures). All partial seizures remain within only one half of the brain. However, some of us have the origin points of partial seizures mostly in one side of the brain, but can have some (as was shown when I was in EEG Long Term Monitoring at Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston) for a week. It was because it took 17 years between my epilepsy returned (as a teenager in August 1980) -- after going into a hibernating state some time before or at the age of 5 with infant febrile epileptic seizures end)-- and since I was not diagnosed with Epilepsy and treated until October 1997. Not only had the epileptic partial seizures --which had their original origin point always in the right front temporal lobe--spread to having origin points in the left front temporal lobe, but it is also (proven through published research) that I suffered 17 years of brain damage to memory/memory recall during the period before being diagnosed and given my first anticonvulsant.
Also, the partial seizures that have their origin in a temporal lobe rather than a frontal lobe last longer, which can be confirmed by using the link below to go to the Epilepsy Foundation site where the pair of temporal lobes are discussed and the point I mentioned about the length of partial seizures is based upon whether the origin is in the frontal of temporal lobe.

Note: How it mentions epileptic and non-epileptic seizures and epileptic syndromes. Even many epileptics do not realize that there are the epileptic syndromes which are far worse than any individual epileptic seizure.

I have had partial complex seizures for over 30 years. I have never had a seizure last longer than 5 minutes
I'm sure there are many. Except for the aura's which were a warning for me that in a seconds that I was about to fall if I didn't sit down. Thankfully I always had that warning when my seizures were a common event.
