I've Been Having Trouble With Vertigo. Is The Epley Maneuver Safe For People With Epilepsy?
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member,
I didn’t read on everyone else’s answers, but I know from personal experience.
I have done the Vertigo exercises for myself and can say from my Experience Only. They work.
I would recommend talking to your PCP before doing them though. I had a friend help me so I wouldn’t get Dizzy and fall.
My suggestion is this: Talk to you PCP and Neurologist, then do as they recommend, but Not alone if they say it is safe for you.
As I said, it worked for me. Each person has a different response to exercises & this is one isn’t any different.
I know it may sound like to much work, but better be safe than sorry later.
Be safe my friends
The first link that I provided above is to the explanation of the Epley Maneuver from the doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital, thus "talk to your neurologist" is in there.
The 2nd link is to the forum at the Epilepsy Foundation site archives of past forum discussions on the topic by epileptics who had to deal with Vertigo in the past (or past and present) and each explains how they dealt with it. The last of the group in the discussion (amyolive) indicated that it was easily treatable by using the Epley Maneuver -- with the doctor moving the person's head. Thus, she did it with the help of a doctor (rather than on her own).
As I expected, the response to a question in a comment from Johns Hopkins Hospital (even if epilepsy is not included) is expected response from doctors: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatmen....
However, here is the feedback to a similar question of Vertigo and Epilepsy connection and the safety of using the Home Epley Maneuver received when discussed in the Community Forum for Adults Living with Epilepsy (thus getting responses to your question from other epileptics) on the Epilepsy Foundation site : https://www.epilepsy.com/connect/forum-archive/...
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, I did! After having what's called Status Migrainosus for a month with vertigo and occasional feelings that room is shrinking (Alice in Wonderland Syndrome), I finally got over this on Thursday. I can't believe how well I feel!
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, had a virtual with my neuro last Friday after the ENT couldn't figure out what was wrong. Started taking Aimovig 70mg injection on Thursday. Feeling so much better.
