How To Help My Wife With Her Depression/sadness?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Quantico, MD

My wife recently switched from Onfi to Brivicat, Brivicat is very similar to keppra from what we were told. Keppra used to make her angry all the time. At first when her doctor switched her to Brivicat I thought she was fine, she held in her sadness from me for a few months. I noticed something was wrong but she didn't know how to tell me because she didn't want me to feel bad when all I wanted to do was help. I don't have epilepsy so I don't know how to help other then taking on more of the… read more

Thank you. I don't think it's a rise for concern, we just got done shopping for all of her old hobbies 😂

I'm just not sure what else I can do. I think all I can do is the little things and take up more the the house hold responsibilities, more exploration because we are new to the area.

I was on Keppra and I am on Briviact due to the awful side effects keppra was causing me. Briviact is a new drug in this community from what my neurologist told me so more studies are still being done. I will say for me personally it is A LOT better mentally on me then keppra. Just remember, epilepsy is a disease. Mood swings are in all the medicine. And depression and anxiety and different t moods are very common with it. If she starts getting really bad I suggest seeing a doctor to talk about those mood swings. You’re doing great tho! You’re doing all you can we can’t always help how others are feelings just support ❤️

I showed her this site, I can see if she would be interested in taking a deeper look. I learned after a few days that this site has more for her then me. I have looked at a lot of the articles regarding to depression and epilepsy and we are already looking at getting her a therapist, which was a big thing that the articles talked about.

Did anything really help? Or is it one of those things that improved over time?
