I had brain surgery in 1990. My doctor had me awake and talking to him so he would know what to take out and what to leave in. It's a good thing that he did it that way because my speech was in the left area where he was operating on. I was seizure free until about two years ago and I had a seizure.

What type of epilesy do you have? If its refractory, no meds will stop seizures… if your doctor asks you about surgery, remember this LITT procedure. I had refractory epilepsy (breakthrough seizures and no medications could control it) no more seizures after having LITT done. It worked *for me* see if it can work for you as well instead of stupid stimulators and devices being implanted into your body. Check out LITT procedure and ask your doctor about it. Many do not know what it is.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, there are many reasons for Breakthrough Seizures.

I recommend going to…

www.epilepsy.com

To read about Breakthrough Seizures. There is a simple explanation here on this site, but more info on the above website that helps break things down.

Both MyEpilepsyTeam site and Epilepsy.com have excellent explanations.

I hope this helps.

My daughter had brain resective surgery along with an RNS implant at same time. For 4 years after, she still had seizures but not as often. Once she started taking XCOPRI that was recommended by her doctor, the seizures stopped. Ask your doctor about it.
