Has Anyone Experienced A Change In Seizure Types?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Dallas, TX

I was diagnosed with TLE a year ago.
I was having focal seizures but now I believe I may be having absent seizures. I had a seizure last month and this seizure has made me feel a lot different and it’s my 3rd seizure since 12/2023.

I am on lamictal and have an appt with my neurologist about this but I am curious if anyone else has experienced this?

Yes I have TLE & eventually they generalised. Took me a long time to realise too. Good luck & stay positive.

I began having gran mal seizures at a very young age then they changed into complex partial seizures when I was a teenager. When I had the Vagus Nerve Stimulator device installed my seizures changed again to a lower type of complex partial then after the Deep Brain Stimulator device the seizures changed once again to absence seizures.

Yes. I have a seizure type , that I didn’t having during my younger years. They are blackouts.

No, they aren’t medication side effects. A EEG proved that. Found out I hand a new area of the brain , that’s making me blackout

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, have you started keeping track of taking your meds? For example, not only taking them on time, how are you feeling before you take your meds? How are you feeling after them? Your neurologist might ask you this question to adjust your treatment. The diary will help you and your neurologist. How are the side effects? It may be time to change your dosage as @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member mentioned.

Hi Sonya,

First off you have the same name of my fav aunt. (: makes me smile
Secondly, mine began as 2 nocturnal seizures when I was first diagnosed. And I was 10 months seizure free and had one in October, then 2 others in Jan. My triggers are caffeine and sleep but it seems like sleep moreso.
Are your absence seizures under control? My doctor is currently increasing my dosage
