Are The Deja Vu Sensations A Seizure?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Southampton, UK

I had a really bizarre moment this morning. I had just let my dogs out to go to the bathroom and when I got back upstairs to my friends flat I was taking their leads off and felt this really strong deja vu sensation, I carried on taking their leads and harnesses on but it all just felt very strange. I was alone and I remember it very clearly. Just wondered if anyone else has these sensations without a full blown tonic clonic.

Deja Vu for me is a sign telling me that a seizure is going to happen; like an aura.

Yes, that’s what I was talking about, too. Look it up if you don’t believe us.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member If it's TLE related then they class "Deja Vu" as a focal aware seizure. Yes, it is a warning but technically if its TLE related the warning is also classed as a seizure.

Lydia, Yes that can be a symptom It’s actually the beginning if the person experience that . I don’t always get that before a seizure. Sometimes I won’t get anything before the seizure hits me. I have gotten that in the past as well

Yes, the deja vu sensation you are describing sounds like part of a partial temporal lobe seizure, which used to be called an aura. Back when I had the traumatic brain injury, I used to describe those feelings to my neurologist, but they didn’t know what they were back then, and so I was told that it was imagination (in 1987). Luckily they know more now. I know if it happens to me, I need to get somewhere safe where I can’t hurt myself if it does turn into something bigger because I’m prone to falling.
