Deja Vu

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

This may be an already asked and answered question, but I am wondering if you feel you have more Deja Vu events than the normal person? Prior to going on my anticonvulsants, I would have several episodes of deja vu a month, now I only have the episodes about once every 5-6 months (and I admit I sorta miss them). Also, my son may be doing a paper on this topic and I am also asking for him.

That deja vu feeling is called an aura which is more like a warning sign or the calm before the storm.

The deja vu feeling is considered part of a temporal lobe seizure seizure

I used to have Deja Vu followed by auras all the time which was great. Because it would give me a 2-minute warning that i was going to have a seizure and 97% of the time the situation was correct. After an ablation surgery, i don't get the 2-minute or Deja Vu warning anymore. But i haven't had a seizure in 5 months. I am trying for 6 months.

I used to have an aura, but since I had brain surgery, I have no aura. I have been seizure free since December of 2011.

I have had the sense of deja vu since the beginning, always just before having a seizure (they are technically a type of seizure themselves, and can happen on their own). If my seizures are controlled, then the deja vu doesn’t dominate my awareness. But I have experienced the deja vu without going into a more serious event, and I have no explanation as to why that happens, only that it does. .
