Update: The Chelsea foundation helped us get an emfit for my sons bed (he is 17). If he has a night seizure at least 10 deco ds long it should alarm to wake us up. We have had it for about 6 mobths now. So far it has not gone off!

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I’ve been taking Depakote for about 20 years & it wasn’t until about 2015 or so that I found out that long term use can possibly cause Osteoporosis & the new Neurologist I was seeing had me do a bone density test test & that showed I have Osteopenia in my left hip & that Neurologist recommended I take Vitamin D & my current Neurologist has me taking Vitamin D as well. I don’t know how long he’s been or will be on the Depakote but you might ask his Neurologist & the dosage he might need. My Neurologist has me taking at least 3,000 mg or whatever they call when referring to that pill.. Hope things get better. Your friend in Texas, Becky

When I had my 1st seizure in September 2023, was by myself house sitting for family. Passed out, came to, on floor bit both sides of my tongue. Woke up with a nasty migraines that morning. Took my medicine for migraine, fixed breakfast, fed dogs, woke up 30 minutes later on kitchen floor. Family DR had all sorts of tests ran on me. All can back ok or normal. Then my husband observed my next seizure 3 months later at 4 am. Called 911.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , It could mean a seizure or something else & the best way to know what’s going on is to let the doctor know what happened but that you don’t know for sure if it was a seizure or something else & his doctor could do an EEG or something to see if they can tell but just because an EEG comes back normal doesn’t mean he doesn’t have Epilepsy anymore. I have TMJ where I grind my teeth when I sleep & so I must wear a mouth guard when I sleep to help keep me from biting my cheeks & to help protect my teeth when I sleep.. For a couple years I had to go without a mouth guard after mine had broken & I didn’t have any insurance to see my dentist & the over the counter ones were not fitting good & during the time I didn’t have a mouth guard when I slept, I woke up one time with the left side of my bottom lip so swollen & numb & sore that I went to see my Family doctor & all she could recommend was putting ice on it & then about a month or so later, I had another event while I slept without a mouth guard & bit my bottom lip really bad again but that time for the first time ever, I bit my tongue. I believe those 2 episodes were due to a seizure & with that happening, it showed me how much my mouth guard really protects my mouth if I have a seizure in my sleep. I now have a new mouth guard from my dentist. But several on here complain of biting their tongue & cheeks & so I let people know that I wear a mouth guard that my dentist made to fit my mouth specifically but it’s possible that your insurance might not cover it & so I have had to pay out of pocket for my mouth guard cause my insurance doesn’t cover it but it’s worth having cause it’s much more comfortable than the over the counter ones that claim you just put it in hot water & then mold it to fit your teeth cause those were to loose.
