Keppra + B6

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Brisbane, AU

Hey everyone,
To anyone here who currently takes Keppra with B6 what has it been like when it comes to the side effects? Has the B6 helped?
And if it has gone well, what was it like (if you have done it) when your dosage increased while taking the B6.
Thanks.

Vitamin B6 is suppose to help some of the emotnal problems associated with Keppra. It works for some and not for others. This would be a subject to take up with your doctor on your next visit if it’s not something he has not suggested before

I've been on Kepra for 17 -18 years now. I also take a multivitamin with my morning meds. I have had anger issues lately, I feel that it is because of forced retirement than anything else. I know I need to work on it. Take care all ericthom3

i take keppra and and pheobarbital. i can not take b6. pheobarb is a Barbiturates. Anticonvulsants (seizure meds) is the other one. b6 helps brain development and for keeping the nervous system and immune system healthy. problem is too much b6 will cause you to muscle control or coordination, Painful and/or disfiguring skin, Heartburn and nausea, photosensitivity, Numbness, and Reduced ability to sense pain or extreme temperatures. do not use if... Altretamine, Barbiturates, Anticonvulsants, Levodopa.
phenobarb is a Barbiturates... and most if not all Anticonvulsants (seizure meds) will not work well.
here's the link of b6 research...

Keppra is a good drug for stopping seizures, I have not had a seizure since I started taking Keppra...but the side effects are tough to deal with (depression, suicidal thoughts, thoughts of self harm)...I have learnt to cope with these side effects of Keppra which is not easy...the B vitamins have made no difference to me.
