I Use To Get Seizures When I Went To The Movies. I Haven't Gone In Over 6 Years. Is It A Good Idea To Try Again? Specialist Said Can Try.

Is going to movie theater a good idea if they caused seizures in the past?

There was a chemical that I found out fandango uses in their theaters that causes some people to have severe reactions. One time I breathed it in and it started right up. I was told by a theater employee about the chemical they use to clean the projector with.

My first seizure happened at my job at Walmart in 2009. I was so embarrassed as it was a grandmal seizure and it was my first ever. It made is so my vision was completely blurred and I could barely get myself to the building for help. I was in my car and the GM wanted me to get to the store so they could get an ambulance to assist. I was able to manage somehow and the ambulance took name to the hospital for help.

The doctor said I was lucky to survive as it was a huge shock to my system. But it did do nerve damage which I blame for the seizures years following. The doctor said your body repairs that damaged nerves and reroutes but can take years.

I have been good until the other month which I think I might of had one in my sleep but it is way overdue and the odd thing is you feel better after it is done with and you back back to from passing out. It can be for a short while or up to a day.

I had all the tests you can imagine done and they all came back inconclusive.

Going to the movies, watching TV, play on the computer, IPad/Tablet , and video game consoles can trigger our seizures. All of those can have a Strobe Light effect ,that can trigger our Seizures .

For myself I don’t care if my Seizures get trigger in any place in public . That includes the movies

Hi cvv107d! I hope you are having a good day. The reason you may have had trouble at a movie was because of flashing lights on the screen. Was that your first seizure? Were you taking medicine at that time or was that your first. Some people are photosensitive. That means that flashing lights or patterns can be a trigger for seizures. That applies to about 5% of people. They always test for that during EEGs. If you have had an EEG and not had a change in activity (while on meds), that may be why doctor said ok. My husband and I were leaving an event one night and a police car passed us. I jumped behind him to block the lights. But I had a seizure anyway. That was my first and only ( possibly) in response to flashing lights. We love to go to concerts. Light shows at concerts are very intense. My doctor told me to wear wraparound sunglasses. I ordered sunglasses made for motorcycle riders. These are for the helmets without the visor. The glasses have foam around the edges, so they really block out the light. I haven't even had an aura at a concert. If the lights are really intense, I do look down or sit. The KISS concert ended up being a little too much! 🎸 Good luck on whatever decision you make! Have a great week!

I think that that would be your call, if you think you can do it,and If not that is ok too, but that is your call in my opinion,
