If You Take Phenytoin For A Very Long Time It Can Effect Your Gums And Your Teeth In Later Life
I have been taking phenytoin for 56 years, one major side effect it has on your gums and teeth, making them come loose then have them out, I want to let anyone who has a denture made in the UK can claim on household contents insurance to pay for them, I did twice and it saved me £8 thousands pounds plus I'm doing it again.
I'm pretty sure that Babs was talking only to those of us who are citizens of Great Britain and not the US.
Dental insurance is usually a separate policy for those of us who live in the US. Dentures certainly don't come under property insurance here and I've never come across insurance for the term "household contents" in the US.
Liquid Dilantin caused me to develop bleeding gums & weakened my teeth to the point that if I eat certain foods( corn on cob, steak, etc... Also apples if I don't cut them into quarters first.).
MargeryHarrop, I have been taking Dilantin since '78 because it is the only drug that seems to help me. The problem, like Babs said, is what it does to your teeth. My gums were inflamed to the point that the bleeding would not stop 'til long after I was done brushing. And this can be an expensive treatment. I easily have $20,000 in my teeth now and am told that I will need $15,000 more. So if something else controls your seizures, by all means try it.
Hi, LesleyDonnelly, when I first started taking phenytoin 56 years ago my dosage was 600mg a day, now I only take 300mg a day with one other AED, what is your dosage?
