Nocturnal Seizures

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello lovely people ☺️

Who here has nocturnal seizures? Can you please tell me how they feel? I’ve been waking up out of blue and having a seizure. I am aware I’m having them as I wake up my whole body becomes stiff and later I have really bad headache.

Thank you ☺️

I was diagnosed with nocturnal seizures two years ago. I sleep thru them and wake up weak, nutty, and don’t remember anything. Sometimes wake up in hospital. Did that this weekend. I live alone so I’m fortunate daughter checks on me in the mornings. This time I had recognizable signs so she spent the night. At 1:30am I woke her up yelling and offer go. Bless her. This is harder on her than me.

For me, I was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 10 & I was having nocturnal seizures. I now have nocturnal seizures & also daytime ones sometimes around my period/hormone time. It’s not easy. I have a camera set up to record me because sometimes I wake up with a headache & feeling sleepy & I look back at it & I ended up having a seizure with sleeping. They are hard, especially if they are stronger ones where I can wake up confused in the middle of the night, wondering why I woke up & thinking I probably had a seizure. I hope you figure your epilepsy out because it’s so hard❤️

Ben, what do you do for your sleep apnea? After my first seizure I had a sleep study which revealed the apnea.

It is actually possible to have seizures in your sleep.

When I had it in My sleep, they were Tonic Clonic seizures, the worst. I couldn’t breathe and turned purple. After having surgery, they aren’t so bad anymore.
