Does Anyone Have “complex Migraines”?
I’m trying to find out more about them. Apparently if I have a complex migraine nocturnally, and am allowed to sleep through it, the effects aren’t as bad when I wake up. But this last one I was awakened in the middle of , I’m thinking, and had effects like a stroke - the aphasia, etc. so had to go to ER to rule out stroke. Neuro can’t tell me much about complex migraines so just trying to get others experience.
Thank you Sue. If I lived closer to Nashville I definitely would have access to more specialized treatment. I appreciate your input very much-
I have a pain management specialist working with my epileptologist because everything is so special on my case with the migraine activity. I would say if you feel the need to bring someone into the case then do it for your health and your care. I wish you well and do hope you get the feeling better soon!
Thanks Sue. I’ve been reading on Healthline, which I get articles from, and I can’t pin down what kind of complex I have. Neurologist has only referred to as complex and nothing further. He hasn’t offered anything more specific. . The ones I’ve had I have awakened from. Last one I had aphasia which had to have stroke ruled out. There was one a while back when I was awake - didn’t know what was happening except felt like losing consciousness, hands tingling, one “nightmare” that scared me so bad I fought to stay awake. I’m beginning to wonder if I need to find an epilepsy specialist.
I did a some research on this and came back with interesting information. I'm giving the information found on a website. "Complex migraine can refer to migraine that causes atypical, stroke-like symptoms, such as aura. Doctors typically use more specific terms to refer to these types of migraine" The website this information was found https://www.healthline.com/health/migraine/comp...
What I found quite interesting in the article was how doctors will not use the word complex, there will be other terms used such as migraine with aura, atypical migraine or hemiplegic migraine which is quite rare as the person will have total weakness to one side of his or her body.
This type of migraine does raise concern as I would suggest speaking with a GP or to your specialist just to be sure there are no concerns with your health. Hope the above information I have shared is okay.
