What Do Prefer Seizure Or Fits?

My preference is seizure. When someone describes a seizure as a fit, I think of a two year old have a tantrum.

as a epilepsy kid, i call epilepsy... seizures and seizures... triggers and whenever i am haveing my 4 types in 1 seizure, i call them spaceouts, lip curl, ma phase and blackouts (aura, simple partials, complex partial and tonic-clonic). to me, fits means a kid is haveing a meltdown... stopping and screeming for a toy/getting out of a faverite place. seizures and triggers sound cool and professional. but i was a wild monkey man with seizures.

I prefer seizure if grand mal seizure. People who use "fit" are just ignorant because they are not educated about epilepsy. I politely ask them to use the proper term and not use "fit" because it's offensive to people with seizure disorders. I find the term "fit" offensive.

Seizure

I agree that it should be referred to as a seizure. Calling it a fit makes it sound more behavioral or emotional. A seizure is a physical and medical phenomena. I was 12 when I first started having auras, after my TBI. I didn't know what they were and neither did my parents. My doctor at the time did not give us much guidance. My parents thought they were panic attacks. I used to call them PSYCHOS, because they scared me and I didn't understand them. Then I had my first major seizure at school, when I was 16, I had another one at home, a couple months later. Then I was officially diagnosed. It was obvious that my
"Psychos" had actually been auras. There was evidence that something had been going on for the past five years. We just didn't realize it. So, I think calling it a fit minimizes its significance and impact on our lives. We need to give ourselves credit for not letting this stop us. 💪
