Due To My Epilepsy, I Also Suffer From Major Depression & Anxiety... How Do You Maintain In A Battle Like This?

I've found that because of my seizures I keep myself isolated but in solitude, my depression tends to increase. However, going out around people, my anxiety becomes unmanageable and will trigger seizures... This is becoming more and more taxing as I grow older...

.Marques When going out many seizures in public for me. Not from anxiety but from the high excitement just from going out. People are just as concerned as you would be for them. You're right bout how confining self makes depression worse for any reason. Try just going for a walk to lift your spirits.Think you've done great with just a few seizures a month bet less severe now too. My partials in public result in many telling me of theirs or a loved ones epilepsy so do understand. Always keep in mind it will pass then we're fine. Can't imagine if had to worry bout a heart attack or stroke how we'd be after.Epilepsy in society now is not viewed like years ago as you can see here.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, i understand what you are saying, been there done that. Your uncontrolled anxiety and depression could be side effects from the medication you are taking. It also sounds like you are having stress which is a trigger for seizures. Solitude is normal because people don't understand epilepsy and think it is a disease.

Each and every one of your answers were things I needed to read this morning. I turned 43 today and while I read some of these last week, I needed this all again today. Thank you all so very much 💜

Everyone manages their Epilepsy differently. When I was in my teens, knowing that I won’t be able to drive and feeling I was alone with Epilepsy , was my reasons for depression.

When I went to an Epilepsy support group , I learned a lot and knew I wasn’t the only one with this condition.. I got better with coping and finding alternative ways to live my life.

When I was in public , I tried not to let anxiety take control. For awhile I was embarrassed after having a seizure in public. But after it happened many different times and gave up that feeling . I started ignoring the people around me . I would just get up , wipe myself off, and go about my business.

I enjoy getting out . I don’t care anymore if I seizure or not in front of the public. That’s how I keep myself moving
