Who Here Has Experienced Nocturnal "tonic" Seizures?
An odd one. I'd previously had "atonic" seizures, particularly scary as you lose all tone in your body, fall to the floor and are paralysed from the neck down for a period (only a few minutes). You then gradually get movement back but you are aware all the time.
Then recently I seem to be having tonic seizures. So the body becomes rigid from the neck down and again you are paralysed. The only difference being when you come back to normal, you ache from head to toe.
So the tonic part of a tonic… read more
I have had nocturnal seizures but I don't know what kind. I'd wake up my head felt weird and I was confused, didn't always know where I was. I'd go back to sleep waking up in the morning knowing I had a seizure. haven't had a nocturnal seizure in quite a few years.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I have nocturnal seizures but not the tonic kind. I have simple & complex partial seizures, along with the nocturnal seizures where I have seizures in my sleep. Different things have happened during my nocturnal seizures these last several years, one time I was taking a nap & woke up with a different pair of PJ pants on with no memory of changing pants, another time I apparently had a loss of bladder & during that seizure I unknowingly walked to my bathroom & removed my feminine pad & went back to bed while still in that seizure mode….,& another one I woke up on the floor finding that I was sliding my finger on the side of the bed & this was the first time I had ever had a seizure & fallen out of bed & this was my first seizure after being in a car accident 2 weeks earlier & had a couple bruises on my face & a small fracture on my nose, bruised legs & some internal bruising on my right side that hurt so bad. I had let my Neurologist know about the wreck incase I had a seizure & 2 weeks later I did. These are just a few of the types of nocturnal seizures I’ve had. Well, I hope things get better for you. Take care. Your friend in Texas, Becky
It's dif per person, I have nocturnal ones time to time, and the worstt one I remember was a while ago, I had gone to bed and the next morning I was waking up and fell something new to me and not right in my side, I didn't fall out of the bed till my knowledge, as soon I tried getting up sitting up in bed I feel s broken rib was there I think my right side, that was the only one that was like that, I have had other nocturnal seizures before and still do time to time, but that is my opinion here on the? Ps hang in there and try to stay pos, I do so can you.
the kind of nocturnal seizures I often have involve me going thru the routine of going to bed. What I mean is that I get up from being asleep in bed, go and brush my teeth, go to the toilet and then go back to bed. I have no recollection of this in the morning. Its only that my husband tells me, and has caught it on his phone to show the specialist. It is a bit like sleep walking, and is a form of nocturnal seizure
A tonic seizure you are conscious as I say. You are just paralysed and rigid. "Atonic" you are paralysed and limp. Either way you are aware at the time, then fall asleep once the symptoms have subsided. I've had almost all forms of seizures. I record over 25 partials a day/night and have done for years. These are different though. You feel helpless.
