Has Anyone Had Worse Side Effects From Meds, And Weaned Themselves Off Slowly? What Was Your Experience? Thank You!
I have weaned myself over several medicines; down to two meds now. Will be weaning myself off dilantin this year and cut back pheno next year. Will do this so long as there is no negative reactions. I've been taking these for over 75 years, no seizures for the past 55 years. I'll do this very cautiously; I am frankly paranode about my meds!
I know neurologists' goal is next to no seizures at all but if meds make you sick explain to neurologist how it makes you feel and why you want to gt off these meds. I would never suggest you wiening yourself off med on your own.
Yes I have done that, I was put on a dosage of my meds that seemed to be to much to take as it is prescribed as written, anyway I took upon myself to cut the dosage down to the amount I am currently taking, I am ok with that and not a prob with, i have seen my doc in the past and had my blood work done and she didn't say anything about my meds being out of the norm or any problem with my meds levels etc, I should of asked about doing that before to my doc, and more than likely will next time, that I think I got lucky doing but that is not a good thing to do or try by yourself, really lucky in my opinion.
I can’t even imagine what would happen if I stopped taking my seizure meds. It took us 15 years to find a combination that works, but the human body builds up a resistance, and ultimately they will stop being effective. Plus, the seizures themselves do more damage to the brain than the medicines. I therefore don’t think it would be a good idea for me.
