@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I’ve had a variety of different types of nocturnal seizures. I’m 45 & have had seizures since the 2nd grade. When I have a seizure in my sleep, I don’t know how long into my sleep or before I wake up that they occur. I don’t always know I’ve had a seizure unless I notice something odd or someone witnesses like my Mom or stepdad who I still live at home with. A few years ago I took a nap & woke up with a different pair of PJ pants on with no memory of changing my PJ pants. A year later I had another seizure in my sleep but had a loss of bladder & that was the first time that had ever happened I believe & after that happened & while still in that seizure mode, I apparently walked to my bathroom & removed my feminine pad & put it in the trash with no memory of doing it. Then later I was going to get but was still tired I went back to bed & apparently was still in that seizure mode cause I didn’t notice my pad missing & then after 20 minutes I couldn’t go back to sleep & so I got up for the day & had another trip to the bathroom & that’s when I was out of the seizure mode & wondered where my feminine pad was & I found it in the trash & realized I must have had a seizure. One time a few years ago I woke confused like I was searching for something on my bed & quickly snapped out of it. Last year I woke up to find my glasses underneath my legs & usually kept them in a Kleenex box beside my pillows & they were out of shape & I ended up having to get another pair. A couple years ago we were in a car accident & I had some bruises on my face & some internal bruising & 2 weeks after the wreck I had a seizure & woke to find myself on the floor beside my bed sliding my finger across the side of my bed. My stepdad heard me making noises in my sleep one time & got my Mom but all they could do was watch. I have TMJ where I grind my teeth, especially when I sleep & I to go a year or so without a mouth guard since I didn’t have any insurance to see my regular dentist who had made me mouth guards to fit my mouth specifically & the over the counter ones are to loose. So 2 different times I had a seizure in my sleep when I didn’t have a mouth guard cause the one I had broke & I had a seizure & bit my bottom lip & it was swollen & hurt so bad. Then short time later I bit my lip again but also my tongue & so my mouth was so sore. So, I recommend a mouth guard to protect people’s mouth when sleeping if they tend to bit their mouth but if they can have a dentist make it to fit their mouth specifically that might help but insurance might not cover it cause mine doesn’t & so it might be expensive. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

It's dif per person, but I have a nocturnal seizure here and there, aren't frequent though, but happens, I have learned to accept the condition I have and kinda know what to expect when they come about, there s few that are a bad one once in a while, but not often though for the most part, I usually recover within the hr and sometimes a little bit longer than that, but am ok with, my opinion here
