I had a seizure in this bar that I regularly go to yesterday. I just feel so embarrassed. Whenever I have a seizure in public I just want the ground to open up and swallow me so I can hide.

Luckily I was with a friend and she got me home and made sure I got into my flat OK. I'm very familiar with the staff at this bar and i just feel like now I'll be known as that women who had a seizure on the floor. I like to be invisible when I'm out, just blend in with crowd and when I have a seizure it's… read more

I do get a little nervous when I have a seizure in a public area, only when it is an absence seizure. But everyone that has epilepsy needs to remember it is not themselves making a decision. it’s another person’s attitude that has created this uncomfortable feeling. Other people are making the judgment. People are afraid of epilepsy because of the rumors that have been spread around over time. After a person reveals their epilepsy to the public some people will become afraid of it, then decide not to associate with them. That has happened to me in the past, but mutual friends of that person that know me do not change their mind. Most people are good semarations and will help a person having a seizure in a public area. I believe patience is the answer. Learning to live with epilepsy is what people need to do.

Lydia6, it is hard to have a seizure in public especially when you are young. I’ve had quite a few in public places but have learned to use humor and laughter to make myself feel better and break the tension in the air. Often, I’ll say “There I go again, flopping like a fish!” Many will laugh with me as I make my exit. My biggest fear in having a public seizure is someone calling Emergency Services. There is no need unless I don’t come out of it. I have recently purchased a badge with a lanyard which I carry on my purse which tells people how to deal with me while I’m dealing with my episode. I hope 🤞 it helps others around me! 😃

You should not feel embarrassed or feel guilty it is not your fault you had one but you can help prevent it by staying a cool place an not drinking any alcohol which can bring one on

Hello Lydia6-I used to be embarrassed when I had seizures in public places also. I still don’t like it, people are afraid of epilepsy because they don’t know enough about it. Remember it is the other people around Yourself that are scared and embarrassed . Some people don’t want to be near a person that has epilepsy or seizures. They don’t know what to do, how to react to what is happening. The only thing they can do is guess that maybe You are having a seizure. A good person will see you, know You need some help and call ☎️ 911. I know a person that I believe is so embarrassed to be near me he won’t even talk to or send an email to me. I had a seizure at his bachelor’s party, now he won’t even reply to an email. I started a fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation asked all of our friends we knew in high school to help me, they all gave me $20.00 dollars, I did not even think of asking him. Do Yourself a favor don’t worry about people like that, ignore them. Best of luck to You. Peanuts 🥜
