If I know I’m going to have an inpatient EEG , I like to prepack a few things to bring with me during the EEG . The TV doesn’t always have what i want to watch. So I would bring things for entertainment. Things like ……..
1 playing cards
2. Book(s) to read
3. iPhone, IPad , or computer ( play music, play app games , check with social media and ect. )
4 . puzzle books and writing utensils
5 coloring book and art markers / crayons
6 note pad / book or some form of paper , if you like writing and doodling

Then there are things that I like to have on hand for a snack or drink of my type ( Not Alcohol )
May want to also bring tooth paste and brush , small bottle of mouth wash, and Deodorant . Maybe some hand sanitizer .

The times I’ve done inpatient EEGs , a nurse would come to my room often ( every hour ) to take me on a walk around the unit. They want to keep your leg muscle well fit. If they have a leisure area in the unit they may want you to mingle with others or just do something outside your room.

They will do different seizure tests , like the Strobe light test and a coupler of other things. They do that 1 -2 times a day. They will probably start reducing your med dosage down so much everyday .

Depending on your seizure activity will determine how long you stay in the hospital.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , In November 2019 when I began seeing my current Neurologist, she had me do a 3 to 5 day in hospital video EEG. Since my seizures aren’t as frequent or severe as some peoples I didn’t have any seizures while there, however, they said that the EEG did show mostly Focalized seizure activity & some Generalized seizure activity while I slept. Most but not all of my seizures occur in my sleep. It was about a week after this test that I had a seizure. Take something to keep you busy like coloring books, word searches, stuff like that. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

I've done it on four different occasions, including twice this year. Just some minor inconveniences like always having to always eat and sleep with the scalp eeg. Also no bathroom privacy, a nurse is normal required to be with you when you go.

Make sure you bring enough stuff as things get bored fast. For me, I did things that are triggers for me so that I could have a seizure faster.

They usually make you have a day where you are deprived of sleep. When I first did this 20 years ago it was easier. But when I did it this year the struggle to stay awake was real haha.

A continuous video EEG involves having electrodes placed on your scalp to monitor your brain activity, typically for 24-72 hours. You'll be monitored closely in the hospital to capture any seizure activity on video and EEG. This test allows the medical team to correlate your behavioral symptoms and brain wave patterns during seizures. Many members report it can be boring and uncomfortable staying in the hospital this long, but say the test provided helpful information for their diagnosis and treatment planning.
