What Should I Expect From My First At-home 24 Hr EEG?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've had one before where it was in clinic and they set the baseline with the flashing lights and making my hyperventilate and everything was video and audio recorded and the nurses would keep waking my up since some of the wires kept having to be reattached. They told me I could work remotely but when I got there, I was not allowed to touch my computer so just slept most of the time. What should I expect doing this at home for the first time?

Baby oil removed the glue, for me, alternating with shampoo. Good luck.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Oh yeah they can be annoying. They can normally disconnect the wires from the EKG tabs then take the tabs off or the easiest way is to have a shower and take them off in the shower. I had to have a EKG when I was in hospital, and I came home with sticker tabs that I had to get off.

For an at-home 24 hour EEG, you can expect that electrodes will be placed on your scalp and you'll wear a small recorder on your waist to monitor your brain activity. For an at-home 24 hour EEG, you can expect that electrodes will be placed on your scalp and you'll wear a small recorder on your waist to monitor your brain activity. Unlike an in-clinic EEG, you'll be able to go about your normal daily activities at home while the test is conducted. The goal is to try to capture any seizure activity that may occur during your regular routine over that 24 hour period. You likely won't have flashing lights or be asked to hyperventilate, but you may be asked to do activities that could potentially trigger seizures. It's important to go about your day as you normally would to get an accurate reading.

Myself my son and daughter had 24 x 7 test which was EEG CEG test with a video running all the time. We had no restrictions on what we could do it was explained to us how to care for the appliance For modesty sake we shown how to disconnect the devise when required. This test show us that my son was also having day time peti mal seizures which we were unaware of This led to more tests and different ways to help manage both his nocturnal and daytime seizures. Hopefully your test will supply you with some answers. Keeping my finger crossed for you
