How Do You Experience Auras Symptoms?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Rochester, NY

My seizures have been under control with medication. I’ve not had auras with my seizures. I occasionally have “fuzzy headaches” (atypical headaches) confusion, difficulty speaking (know the word but struggle to say it), physically off balance. I worry they are auras.

It's understandable to worry that those symptoms - confusion, difficulty speaking, feeling off balance - could be auras before a seizure. It's understandable to worry that those symptoms - confusion, difficulty speaking, feeling off balance - could be auras before a seizure. Auras can take many forms, including sensory changes, emotions, and confusion. Since you haven't had auras before, it would be a good idea to discuss these new symptoms with your doctor to determine if they are related to your epilepsy or not. If your doctor confirms they are auras, the next step would be updating your seizure action plan. That may include getting to a safe place when you feel an aura coming on, alerting someone that a seizure may happen, timing how long the aura lasts, and reporting all the details back to your doctor.

Speak to your Neurologist or Epileptologist about a take home EEG . I found out I had dx I wasn’t aware of. It was helpful for me.

Diff reactions but still for same reason a seizure screws things up. Like a dream while awake unique how we feel too. Ease mind bout any weird feelings just by knowing why to help cope during or after any. Never dwell on any more than a bad dream be glad you woke up from too.
