Any Suggestions Or Guidance On Getting A Seizure Alert Dog For My 16 Year Old Daughter? I Am Doing Research But I Am Overwhelmed.

We live in Pa. and have a training site right down the road from us, however there is a 2 to 4 year wait list. My daughter does have Medicaid so I was hoping that would help move her up on the wait list

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Try this website https://www.eawcp.org/programs/servicedogs/;jse... & you could also play on www.google.com by typing in different things like seizure dogs in pa, that’s something like I typed & it brought up different websites but read their rules or restrictions of what they require to apply. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

I understand the frustration of long waitlists for seizure alert dogs. Since you live near a training facility in Pennsylvania, here are some suggestions that may help get your daughter paired with a dog sooner: Contact the training organization and ask if Medicaid coverage makes your daughter eligible for priority placement or financial assistance. Many programs give precedence to applicants with the greatest medical need. Look into local and national organizations that provide grants or fundraising support for service animals. Submit applications explaining your daughter's situation. If possible, consider widening your search area for programs with shorter wait times. While traveling for training can be challenging, it may be worthwhile to get a service dog faster.
