When I wake up, I’m always feeling like a Zombie too. The more I wake up and become fully alert , I feel less like that Zombie.

It can vary. I am on phenobarbital which is an old anticonvulsant and it is also used for sedation. I take so much that the pharmacy at the hospital was not going to give me my proper dose during my last hospital stay. I think I have become so adjusted to such a large dose, that when new medications are added I am only sleepy for a day or two. My GP thinks that I might have a hyper metabolism as far as medication is concerned, it is certainly not for food.

It varies from 2-3 months minimum to 6 months for some drugs. Exercise helps, cold showers, protein (all that fun stuff... I find walking first thing just get up go! energy comes with the endorphins..er and coffee I guess.) Sometimes titration is too quick, so dont be afraid to say this is too fast. take care my fellow zombie!

It depends on the medication and if the side effects are sleepiness. Some medications will cause that.

It's understandable to feel like a zombie if you're experiencing significant sleepiness from your epilepsy medications. This side effect often improves over time as your body adjusts to the medication, but it can take weeks or even months. If the sleepiness persists beyond the initial adjustment period, talk to your doctor about potential options. Some things that could help are adjusting the timing or dosage of medication, adding a stimulant medication to counter the sleepiness, or trying an alternative antiseizure medication with less sedative effects. Lifestyle changes like getting enough sleep, exercising, and maintaining a healthy diet may also help manage fatigue. But the most important thing is working closely with your healthcare team to find the right treatment plan for you.
