How Do You Handle Music Triggers?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

This is my first Christmas service I'll miss in my lifetime since there will be a live band. Which makes me so furious since I'm a musician and used to play in the band. Now I can't even be around music without going into a seizure. I've been crying each night this past week. To be safe, I have to watch it live via the link on Facebook. I use earplugs, but I can only last 5 minutes max like in a JCP store setting because the background music triggers me. Can't do theatre or movies anymore… read more

Kriss , I just thought of something that may possibly help with your seizure trigger from loud sounds and noises. My Nephew / technically 2nd cousin , has Autism and sometimes too much noise gets a little stressing for him . When he can’t handle it , he uses a Noise Canceling Headphones or Earphones .

Maybe these can possibly help reduce your seizures triggers to loud noise or music.

I’m one of the lucky ones . Music doesn’t trigger my seizures. Music actually helps slow down my thoughts when trying to sleep

Honestly music or sounds don't trigger my seizures however because of my autism my hearing hears things at a much higher pitch than normal so it hurts my ears hearing stuff like fireworks, gunshots, or even a dog whistle will really start hurting my ear drums but best way I can fight it is with an opposite sound to counteract the sound while covering my ears to dim it as well.
