How Do You Cope With The Emotional Dysregulation Before During Or After Your Seizures?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

are you embarrased to talk about mental health with your support team?

I wanted to highlight this because it seems overlooked by alot of people. How many times have you been told that you are using your epilepsy as an excuse for your melt downs, moodiness, tiredness caused by the effects of a seizure symptom/seizure or side effects of meds? please do not ever give up on seeking mental health support and tests for other conditions as epilepsy hardly ever travels to us alone. 💜

Truthfulness with others is always best. Then they can not only know how you may react but also to react

Only a few People told me directly, that I was looking for attention with my Epilepsy/seizures .

Majority of the time , I wasn’t told that. I usually freaked people out when I had my seizures in public or some type of event outside of home. If those people didn’t know me , they usually would keep away from me. A small percentage would come to me and make sure I was ok, after recovery.

Kelly08, I'm retired. My problem is with family members. I concluded a long time ago there are people who are just plain ignorant and don't want to change. I'm fine. Thank you for caring

Many times I've been told I use seizures as an excuse and/or I fake seizures. Use to make me a bit angry, than I learned the ignorance of people like that doesn't matter. I've been much happier since I no longer let anger get the best of me.

I am mentally indifferent if I have a petite-mal (Absence)seizure. I get back to what I was doing if it was the small seizure. My youngest told me that I have not had a Tonic-clonic (Grand mal) so there are no worries.
