A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Deridder, LA

Those of you with partial seizures... What meds are you on and what side effects do you have?

I'm on Dilantin, and still having oodles and oodles of seizures every day. But the medicne side effects aren't bad. I remember KEPPRA and topamax, and will NEVER take them again because of side effects. I'm scared to try anything else, at all! Neurologist appointment in a couple of weeks, does anyone have any advice?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I also have been on Dilantin for over 40 years and the side effects eventually went away. I had a right temporal lobectomy in 1988 but remain on 400 mil. of dilantin. Clonazepam and Tegretol are the 2… read more

Sound

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Fort Worth, TX

Is anyone else sensitive to noise? I've noticed if the tv or stereo is up too loud, or if there are multiple noises...radio, Ac, people talking or traffic, I get dizzy and nauseous. I've even seen spots. I just have to get somewhere quiet.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Yes it depends on the type of sounds and how loud the sound is. I can’t handle loud music or noise and I especially can’t handle someone stressing me out or yelling at me it will make me have a grand… read more

Keppra Xr

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Easthartford

I had my first seizure 22 years ago. I have been on many mediction and so far no luck with being fully seizure free. I am on 1600 MG tegretol xr and 3000 MG of Keppra xr. Mood swings are horrible I was wondering if anyone knows of a way too help with those or a good way to handle them. Sometimes the smallest thing will trigger a rage. It's unbearable at times. I was also wondering does anyone ever wonder after you've been on a medication that's alters your personality and just how you feel… read more

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ambrose, GA

I have given over 3 gallons. Stopped giving when I was put on medication. I missed a dose of my medicine one day and 3 days later I had a bad seizure. I am scared to do it again if it would alter even the littlest bit. I DO NOT want to have another bad one.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Same here. I used to give Blood on a regular basis since HS. Now I cannot because of Medication also, I hope I at least dented the Supply for all I've used over the years.

I Am Wondering What Birth Control Is Best For People With Epilepsy?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Clyde, NY

I heard that some types of birth control is not really good for people with epilepsy because it can affect epilepsy medication. I am currently taking toprimate daily and lorazepam as needed. I wouldn't bother with birth control but it's becoming less of a choice. My monthly cycle is pretty out of hand and has caused me to almost faint twice during two different months, nurses experienced it one of the times. My seizures are pretty well controlled WITH medication. I have had only two grandmals… read more

Yeah, it's good to definitely look into all options before deciding right away. They only went over risks with the IUD with me and not the arm implant. I didn't find out about the risks about the arm… read more
