Anyone Dealing With Keppra Rage?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Otisville, MI

I've been dealing with a lot of rage and anger and just general not feeling like myself. It has come to my attention that there is something called keppra rage that comes from taking keppra which is what I take for my seizures. Has anyone or is anyone also dealing with this and have you found anything to help deal with or get rid of the rage?

Yes! There is something called Keppra rage! I had it for years - without even knowing that I had it! I thought it was just a part of normal me! I was on 3500mg of Keppra a day for about 8 years, and the doctors in the epilepsy clinic finally gave up on me - they couldn't help me any more! They sent me down to the epileptologist - her first job was to put my Keppra down from 3500mg to 2250mg. She wanted to put me down to 2000mg - but I did a bit of bargaining with her - I thought at that time that she was going to kill me! But - no - that was the best thing that had been done in years! It definitely lowered the rage issues! Now after 14+ years, today is my first day off Keppra! But transferred on to Briviact. Go to your neurologist - check if you are on too high a dose! The difficult bit with Keppra is finding the correct dose!

I'm on 1000mg 2× a day also and I've never heard of keppra rage but it makes since lol however I noticed it was worse when I was on clonazepam. My Dr recently upped my lamortrigine thought and it's gotten a lot better for me

After seven and a half year s of switching from Keppra to Briviact, I am now so much better! I was much better after 3 months! But now, on Briviact and Eslicarbazepine, and my VNS, seizures have been reduced by 80%! I would never try Keppra again. I believe that it works for many people! But I think it is one of the most extreme of drugs for epilepsy. So many suffer from Keppra rage through no fault of their own. That's why they brought out Briviact - a cousin drug, very similar, but they've taken something out of it. I now get no rage, and my seizures were reduced by 60%! I may get a bit of mild brain fog - but that is a very good exchange for Keppra rage! And seizures are still going down! I'm now probably the most settled on medications that I've ever been throughout my whole life! It's more the long term side effects that I now have to deal with, after taking epilepsy drugs for 58 years! Each body is different! Good luck to all of you and I hope you all find the correct solutions for yourselves while working with your medics!
