Headaches

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Can headaches in an epileptic mean more than they seem. I have had constant headaches for a while and I was just wondering if there is a bigger problem lying beneath. I'm not sure if I need to a just some thing like my medication or if I need to change something more drastic. When the headaches come they are debilitating I sometimes have to lock myself in a dark room till they pass. Pain medication does not work for these headaches. Just so you know migraines are not another form of epilepsy. They are another neurological disorder. That is why some migraine sufferers take epilepsy medicine for them. Some Epilepsy drugs works for migraines do to the common factor of being neurological. I wouldn't recommend epilepsy meds for migraines.

Try Excedrin Migraine. It is the only medicine that ever touched my migraines. Also fluctuations in hormones can trigger a migraine. The key I found for me was to 1) stay well hydrated with water and 2) take Excedrin Migraine upon first sign one was developing. It was a miracle medicine for my son as well.

Could be meds or just that many epileptics also get migraines. I developed epilepsy at 14. I developed migraines at 25 when I got pregnant with first child. Soon after migraines started, the seizures got much harder to control. I read somewhere that most people with one nervous system illness will develop 1 or more. (autism & epilepsy) (epilepsy & migraines) etc. It's different for most people.
