Petit Mal And Pain

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

At work we got on to the subject of our medical ailments, and i was asked if i'd ever injured myself during an absence, once i explained what an absence was, the answer is yes. While preparing dinner i have cut my hand open, burnt myself, stubbed toes and probably alot more. BUT i have never felt pain during an absence. And i haven't had pain from an injury after either. so i was just wandering if anyone else has experianced the same thing

I actually got 3rd degree burns, didn't realize it until coming to but had to play nurse's aide for a few weeks to make sure my left hand would heal reasonable. I have noticed there was activity but also noticed the nerves were healing which is a good thing so I'm happy it wasn't damaged as bad as we thought when visiting the ER.

I have burnt myself, cut myself and broken plenty of bones. I don't feel anything while I'm seizing, but when I come to I feel all the pain.

Tremors sometimes in the kitchen with a knife is not a good combination. I’m a bit clumsy at times and need to do a better job of taking a step back for a moment. It’s the “I think I can do this just fine” stubbornness about me that gets in the way.

I have complex partials, they are probably a little different from absence seizures. I have never hurt myself luckily. During a complex partial we are unaware of what we are doing but we can still walk around, are still do whatever we were doing, so luckily i have never cut myself or even worse like walked out into traffic.

Yes I was cooking once and burnt my arm on the oven. I had oven gloves on and the burn was half way up my arm.
At the time I did it I never felt a thing as was having a absence seizure. It was later on my arm felt hot and hurt a bit which made me look which was when I saw it.
So answer is yes
