Does Anyone Else Have Absence/petit Mal Seizures And Auras?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Los Angeles, CA

I was originally diagnosed with simple and complex partials based on my history and symptoms, but the only thing my video EEG picked up was a generalized absence seizure even though I had auras for several of the days I was there. (My auras are waves of a strange feeling in my head like dizziness, sometimes with tingling in my scalp.) I read that people with absence seizures don't usually have an aura or post-ictal confusion, but I definitely do. My epileptologist mentioned that something… read more

I know how you feel because now i'm starting to get them an it does feel funny you are right about that. I am on 3 different seizure medications that do work but really make me tired an just out of it once i take them right away. I'm on Keppra, Vimpat ,Felbatol.i had my whole right temporal lobe removed because of my seizures i was only 5 years old on my birthday to just turning 6. Then when i was 17 i got the VNS put in my chest to try an control my seizures an it does but there are some times where it don't want to work for me.I'm very slow at stuff an it takes me awhile to think or do anything i cant drive whatsoever so my boyfriend has to take me wherever i need to go. I get confused very easy about stuff to like less someone wanted me to get them like a pop or something i will forget an i don't mean it either it's just how i am because of my seizures. I'm only getting information from my left side of my brain now not the right side anymore since the doctor took my right temporal lobe out. God is always with you an keeping you safe. God Bless

I now know I have 4 different types - most common are simple partial (were called aura's prior to my new doctor here in FL) - a bad stomach ache like I am stressed - have daily up to 6 a day. and Complex partial (petit mal - depending on if my meds are working at the moment - they usually work for a few years and then the seizures break thru and I need a new med - had one grand mal at 20 months and one Tonic Clonic at 21yrs old - Its TLE on my left side brain - I just had surgery 4 weeks ago here in FL. I moved from northern CA a year ago partially to see this hospital here. - I have had seizures since birth - 40 years!! will be a miracle if this works! (my old doc called my simple partials - aura's) - they are not! I never get a warning for my seizures!

I have Absence seizures and auras. Though my aura's only occur with complex partial seizures. The only way I can tell If I had an Absence seizure is when I hear my name being called and when people keep asking me if I am okay.

I also have absence seizures and auras. My auras are intense feelings of deja vu, and a sense of dread. I have described it as feeling like a giant thumb was going to come down and squash me like a bug. If I am reading, suddenly I can read the same sentence 5-6 times, and not get the meaning. Or, if I am speaking, suddenly I can't utter next words. Sometimes my auras let me know I am about to have a seizure. Other times, I have no idea I have had one until someone nearby tells me I did. My seizures normally last 45-60 seconds, usually involving complete loss of awareness, lip smacking and/or rocking. If I am holding something, I usually drop it. If someone speaks my name while I'm having one, I do seem to notice them, and I often turn to them and seem to be trying to speak.
