Not Aware Of Partial Seizures?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Deridder, LA

It's been months since I've been able to put an actual time or date to a seizure. I'm wondering if they have stopped/controlled, or if I am just not noticing them? I see the neurologist Thursday and I'm wanting to drive. I don't know if I'm forcing myself to NOT see them, or if they really arnt there!

My family members notice my partial seizures and silent seizures more than I do. Which they notice about 90-100% of them I notice about 30-35% of them. So not sure if my brain is just not aware enough to function to notice anymore from all the medication or that they are so light that I don't notice. But Dr never answered. Just told my family to write down every strange spell I had even if they didn't think it was a seizure, what I was doing, how it affected me, what happened, how long it happened, symptoms if can remember, any memory loss, any vocabulary loss or difficulty forming words, stuff like that. And have to turn that into him in a month. But I'm so ready to drive again and be self sufficient again! I know the feeling. Keep your head up. Hugs🐶

Bless you, sweetie, you will do what is right! "Freedom" can be accomplished in many ways, even if we are not able to drive or step outside our home, it is a feeling of Utopia we create in our minds, that really gets us through each day! Best wishes, The Brandon Pack supports You!

Good Morning my dear friend,
Speaking from experience, ALWAYS expect them to be present, it is much easier to manage your sanity that way as well as give you a measure of self-esteem to continue the "fine fight"! If you think you are ready to drive, perhaps you shall, NOBODY knows your body physiology better than you! As a Gran Mal Epileptic of 51 years, I have lost my license twice in my teen and 20s. Now at 54, My Service Dog, Dolly detects them before ever they happen. They are a blessing that I wish was available when I was young. I too have been "seizure free" since 2007, but I have "episodes" of psycho motor control seizures, twitching, etc that are generally manageable. I err on the side of caution, but I move forward with my life as well, knowing she has my back AND that i have enough sense not to drive if I am feeling bad.
Doctors are bound by law to report what you tell them, so HOW you choose your words make all the difference when attempting to move forward in life. We have an awesome responsibility to the public at large to not drive when feeling bad for fear of injuring or killing an innocent party. So, move forward with the intent to better your life, ALWAYS expecting that seizures will be there, and manage your life responsibly with others in mind as well. I hope this helps, Connie!
