Religion
Now I know this is going to be controversial but do those with strong religious beliefs think epilepsy is a punishment?
We are all human whatever colour, age, gender or social beliefs.
Not to sound like a politician but we are all here to talk and help each other in whatever way we can. Epilepsy and its associated problems need to be tackled on a global scale. Together we can beat this if we hold each others hand!
I thought at first it was a punishment at first. I started having them when I was younger. Cause when I was in school, I was stuck in a special room for reading and math. From 4th grade and up. And when I hit 7th they put me in a special room for all my major subjects. Until 12th grade, they let me out for unique science. I always blamed it on my health. But when I graduated I surprised my self and graduated with high honor. A lot of time I wish I didn't have seizures, epilepsy, so I can drive. I feel helpless cause I always have to count on someone to take me place. Unless I walk to town. I am 40 years old and still don't have my drivers license. Wish I did so I can go visit my friends in other towns.
Are there really people who think that disease (of any kind) is a punishment? That's mind blowing! As a wise friend of mine once said "disease doesn't discriminate".
In Biblical times, people often thought of Epileptics as demonically possessed and they were shunned. As time moved forward, they were considered oracles/seers and were revered. Obviously, I don't believe it's a punishment from God. A test perhaps, but we all have them.
Raspberries. Epilepsy has been called a demon, but punishment. Phooey. I was 5 and 8. What am I or my parents being punished for. Epilepsy can be healed through the power of God. It's helped me grow in my relationship with God and ditch some of my archaic and outmoded, staid, paper doll beliefs of the Holy Spirit not working in today's world. That's taken a while. It's also allowed me to minister to other people in their journey through this. I've hit dark patches because of relationships I've been in, but that only allowed me the opportunity to grow in my faith. These last 3 years I don't think my ex-husband would have had enough gumption to have made the walk with me. But God never gives us more than we can handle. No, taking pills isn't fun, but it's what does the job, so I accept and go on with what works. What I wish is that the companies that provide us with food and medicine would actually care about US more, instead of their own bottom line, so it would make out lives easier.
NO! Sometimes we feel the why me, but learn how to cope. I have been able to help pre-teens & teens because I have epilepsy. Adults too!
No I don't enjoy loosing my sight several times for a few seconds and no I do not enjoy taking a fistful of pills throughout the day and I especially don't like waking up with twitching muscles and know I have been having seizures throughout the night whilei was sleeping because the meds have long worn off.
I would never wish this disorder upon anyone. It is not a punishment nor a gift. But those of us that do have it are here to help each other out and educate those who do not understand what epilepsy is.
