Pet Dogs And Seizures

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone had a seizure with their pet dog in the room?
I had a seizure today and before I even knew it was coming on, my pet dog came and sat next to me and did not move.

I had a dog (German Shepherd mix) I was having over 100 seizures a month. She knew when I was going to have a seizure, before the aura started, she would come to me and hit my hand with her nose. I didn't kknow what she wanted. Within a minute the aura would start and then I would have a seizure. I trusted her so much from then on. Unfortunately I no longer have her. She was the greatest blessing that I could have wished for.

I'm not home. When I get home in about an hour I will see if I can find the video and share it with you

I have a 10 yr old Sheltie. I have always said he's more of a daddy's dog. Lately though, he seems to stare at me and follow me more than usual and I will have a seizure that evening. Dogs are amazing and sense things we will never understand.
The very first time I had a grand mal and had to be taken to the ER, he was glued to my side for over a week!

My dog can tell when I'm not feeling good seizure related or not.
