Birth Control And Anticonvulsants
I have a question, specifically for women. So my doctor says my birth control pill (spirintec) may be effecting my lamotrigine levels- lowering it specifically. My doctor recommends I try a different birth control because this may be causing my recent break through seizures. I'm worried because I know I have cateminal seizures (caused by hormones). If you have catamenial seizures could it be that the hormone level is too low? Hailey also has hormone triggered seizures and they have put her on minastrin but she does not take the placebo stopping her cycle completely. This has done an amazing job controlling her seizures. Even though they may be lowering the anticonvulsants, if the seizures are caused by hormones to me it makes sense to control the hormones better. Mirena may work well since it stops cycle and is not systemic so it wouldn't interfere with oral meds. You can Talk to an endocrinologist who is familiar with catamenial seizures to help you find the right combo.
My neurologist said that I'm okay to get a IUD. I have a IUD/Skyla in right now. I have had it in since February or March and it works good for me
I was told only to use a condom.
i have never been able to go on any type of birth control, because it would interfere with my tablets or the tablets would interfere with the birth control, and the one i did try, i was alergic to. So over the years ive just had to be very careful. Now that i'm done with having kids I had to convince the doctors to tie my tubes.
I take continuous Birth control pills and skip sugar pills as per my neurologist. When I decide to have children...that will be a while nother story...
