What To Expect With Getting An EMU?
I was just informed I need to get an EMU done. What should I expect? How will this all work?
Like Alexander said they are incredibly boring, but just bring as much as you can to help you pass the time. I like to bring my laptop and a stack of DVDs. I definitely agree bring sweatpants or gym shorts, anything you will be comfortable wearing for a few days. Check ahead, but both places I've done these have aloud me to have someone stay overnight, and as a bonus both places let my dog come visit.
Good Luck, I hope it goes very smoothly for you, and they find all the answers they're looking for
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member - EMU stands for "Epilepsy Monitoring Unit." That is when you stay in the hospital for several days in a row to have an in-depth EEG. I hope this helps. :)
Hi Tasia. EMU's are very boring. It's painless but all you will be required to do is wait. I suggest bringing lots to do such as puzzles, a laptop/iPad/tablet, book(s), etc. to stay busy. You will be wired-up to a series of electrodes with glue and then they will bandage your wires securely. Don't worry, you will NOT feel any electric passing over your body. You will probably be asked to do sleep deprivation and also be weaned off of your medication(s) temporarily by your neurologist to induce a seizure if needed. You will go back on your medication(s) before you leave the hospital. I like to wear my own sweat pants as hospital gowns make me feel icky. You will also be asked to wear a button-down shirt since you can't take a t-shirt off being wired-up. Beyond that, just sit and wait. Best of luck to a positive experience. Blessings. :)
You're Welcome!
Thank you!
