Odd Smells
I've had a recent development. In the past year or so, I've started smelling things that no one else can. At first my doctor and I were worried that I was beginning to have auras, which would be totally weird after being epileptic for 30 or so years. So I've had the usual run of tests, EEG and such, nothing looks off. However, the smell has only become more frequent. The best part is that I smell cigarettes. Stress does some odd things to us... Speak to the doctor and see what they think too!
I can smell and taste something I can't even explain and usually last for 30 seconds. It's sometimes a sign of seizures
I have juvenile myoclonic epilepsy with generalised tonic clonic seizures. I'm on Lamictal and Keppra. I also often smell weird smells or existing smells with greater intensity than people around me. It often happens pre-aura, but not always. My doctor doesn't seem too worried since I have no other physical abnormalities.
What Rowen said. Nobody else can smell it. Sometimes I ask ."you smell that?" Turns out it's only me.
I have juvenile myoclonic epilepsy too. I go see my doc in July. She must not be too worried about it after my EEG last month if I'm not being called back in, idk. Like I said, since they have been occurring for some time, and have never been a precursor to a seizure, my doctor is unsure if it is a new side effect of medication. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I find I ask people that too, but usually it is just me, though sometimes it isn't. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member auras would be a nice thing to have. I agree, but that doesn't seem to be what I am dealing with.
I was just sitting on the couch reading last night and it started. I am starting to wonder if it is stress related. I am at the end of the school year and it gets really nuts and demanding. It has been a crazy year and I have suddenly begun to wonder if there could be a stress element to the increase in frequency. Any thoughts?
