Childcare Interview
My childcare teachers told me I don't need to tell the childcare director I'm going to have an interview with about Epilepsy. I've been seizure free for almost 6 months since surgery and I have the rights. I have MRI and surgeon appointment next month. What should I say? I just don't want to feel the discrimination again like the old centre. Firing me after director finding out.
You would never tell an employer what a Doctors appointment was about any other time unless you wanted to tell them what it was about. Should be no different. It's completely up to you. As far as telling the employer about your epilepsy/seizure disorder, any employer who feels that something should be divulged during the application process due to safety concerns, They will explicitly list it in the application. If not, you are not required to answer any questions that haven't been asked. That's in accordance with the disability act. If you feel you should say something afterward, that is completely up to you Rowen.
Anyway, good luck with the interview! :0)
I've done a lot of contract work since being diagnosed with epilepsy in 2011. I never mention it in the interview. if I am hired I will inform my new employer that I take medication for epilepsy and I controlled (no seizures since 2012). I don't believe anyone should feel obligated to share their medical history in an interview (unless you are asked directly, which some roles such as flying a plane might require). Good luck with the interviews. I hope everything goes well.
I used to be a custodian. If i with held that i had epilepsy from them and nothing ever happened ok. But if i had a seizure on the job and i got hurt, or a co-worker, or student, I would be out of a job and need a lawyer. Im applying for SSID right now , cause I have only done physical labor jobs. I dont have training for anything else and i need insurance. I know in some hospitals prenatal center they have rockers. To provide the babies with presence of a person. Just a thought.
I wouldn’t mention it at all until you’re hired. I would let them know once you’ve started working there about the remote possibility of a seizure happening and answer any questions they have. I find people are always curious and want to ask but are afraid to unless you openly invite them to. Reassure your employer and coworkers there is no need to worry. Good luck🙂
Oh staff also said, they didn't know I'm epileptic.
